Eating

There are huts on Plage de Malendure selling cheap sandwiches and snacks, and a couple of simple open-air beachside restaurants with more substantial meals as well as a few larger-scale restaurants.

La Touna SEAFOOD $$

( 05-90-98-70-10; www.la-touna.com; Pigeon; mains €16-24 lunch & dinner Tue-Sat, dinner Sun) This superfriendly, stylish place on the seafront has a sumptuous Creole menu and specializes in fresh seafood (there’s a lobster tank here where you can choose your dinner). The terrace has great views toward Pigeon Island and is a lovely cool place to round off your meal with a digestif to the sound of the waves. Dinner reservations in season are a good idea.

Le Rocher de Malendure INTERNATIONAL $$

( 05-90-98-70-84; Bouillante; mains €15-26 lunch & dinner Thu-Tue) The best-established restaurant in Bouillante, this sprawling complex is actually built on the eponymous rock, and has incredible views on all sides. The restaurant offers everything from sushi plates to the fresh lobsters it keeps in a small pool. The restaurant also rents simple studios from €65.

For supermarkets, you’ll find a Leader Price and a Match on the southern outskirts of Plage de Malendure.
